More services and products for commercial use have been awarded the Smart Approved WaterMark, bringing the total to 166 domestic and commercial products and services that have been approved by the scheme. “It is encouraging to see an increasing number of commercial products applying to the scheme. It is being recognised that businesses want some independent assurance of water saving capabilities of the products or services they buy - and the Mark offers that,” says the CEO of Smart WaterMark, Mr Julian Gray. Another six products and one service have received the Mark, following review by the Smart WaterMark Independent Expert Panel. Of these, six are within the commercial market in irrigation, nursery, pool and cleaning sectors. IRRIGATION PRODUCTS AND SERVICES Underhill International’s FCI Profile Nozzles Over time sprinklers do become less efficient, but these brass nozzles return performance to within 5% of original catalogue performance. They suit all Toro and Rain Bird golf sprinklers, the major brands in that marketplace, and feature a stainless steel die-cut orifice plate for optimum performance. Knowledge Tree Environmental Consultants Their service has been awarded the Smart Watermark. It is an integrated water management consultancy service that conducts water use assessments and audits, and develops and implements water reduction strategies for clients. Knowledge Tree Environmental Consultants is a regional company based in Port Macquarie, New South Wales with contracts extending across Australia and overseas. GARDENING PRODUCTS ANOVApot from Anova Solutions ANOVApot is a plastic pot designed for commercial growers, with a unique central drainage system. Over five million of the pots have already been sold to Australian nurseries since its invention in 2005. The pot saves water by allowing water to drain more slowly when compared with other pots, thereby reducing water waste through overwatering. It also allows for more thorough wetting of the potting mix. It is an Australian invention from Dr Mal Hunter, a horticultural research scientist with a PhD in plant science, who started his career as an agronomist with a special interest in plant nutrition/fertilizer. COMMERCIAL POOL FILTRATION Zelbrite Filter Media from Zeolite Australia Zelbrite is a pool filtration product, which is manufactured to exacting standards from natural zeolitic material sourced from Zeolite Australia’s mine at Werris Creek, near Tamworth in New South Wales. The Zelbrite advanced media has a larger surface area than sand, thereby reducing backwash frequency and reducing water use by up to 30%. It offers the performance of diatomaceous earth, or better, with the convenience of a sand filter. COMMERCIAL CLEANING PRODUCTS ec-H2O from Tennant Company ec-H2O is a cleaning technology that electrically activates plain tap water, making it behave like a powerful detergent without any added chemicals. It uses 70% less water than conventional commercial floor cleaners during the use of the equipment. The other advantage of the ec-H2O is that it eliminates the environmental impact of producing, using and disposing of traditional cleaning chemicals. Low Flow Mini M-70 Water Saving Trigger Nozzle from Spray Nozzle Engineering This commercial wash-down device saves water in two ways: it has an automatic shut-off lever and a stainless steel design that prevents nozzle seat leakage. The water saving trigger nozzle is from specialist engineering company, Spray Nozzle Engineering of Victoria. DOMESTIC PRODUCTS Winn's Water Saver from Winn's Folly Winn’s Water Saver is a domestic plumbing unit designed to save the cold water in hot water pipes. It allows cold water in the hot water pipe to be used rather than wasted by redirecting the cold water to a storage tank until the hot water reaches the tap. The water in the tank is then used to operate toilets in the house or to water the garden. The product is being marketed in Australia by its inventor, Eric Winn of Mackay in Queensland. |
